SEASHORE

An extensive stretch of sand known locally as Solar Beach dominates the south east coastline of Karadas, running parallel to the Wilandro Jungle. This humid, tropical forest is packed with palms and thick vegetation which are home to a wide range of birds, insects, and marsupials. The territory may appear welcoming and give every impression of being a postcard paradise, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Rugged outcrops and cliffs rising above the trees—as well as the Aradine Mountains beyond—shelter the Wilandro Jungle from the worst of the inland elements. The beach itself is often lashed by ocean winds and pounding waves. Driftwood, ill-fated sea creatures, and all manner of debris wash up onto the shoreline daily. It is here that a great two-legged beast prowls—Rakista.

ENVIRONMENT

Over the years, a handful of seafaring vessels from beyond the shores of Karadas have become marooned on Solar Beach. The waves are quite persistent, making a return journey out to the ocean an impossible undertaking. Should any crew survive an initial beaching, they will soon wish they had not. Rakista is an obvious menace, although other perils lie in wait. The sands crawl with flesh-eating crustaceans, and Lazu War Crabs lurk amongst the rocks further to the east. Armed with vicious pincers and weighing up to half-a-tonne, Lazu War Crabs are to be avoided entirely.

The jungle itself offers little in the way of sanctuary. For the most part, the understory is a dense tangle of barbed vines and impassable bogs. Poisonous bugs no larger than buttons, a host of hungry reptiles, and spiders the size of wolves are all genuine threats. That being said, the Borini survived among the trees for many years and grew to call the area home. They did not linger long though, choosing to relocate elsewhere in search of a more peaceful existence.

RELICS

Long before the Borini departed Wilandro Jungle, an ancient civilisation clearly thrived among the trees. Evidence of a higher society can be found in the form of temples, brick paths, and raised waterways, all constructed with skill and precision. Little is known about who actually built the structures, although they clearly had a fascination with, or perhaps even worshipped, snakes. Serpent heads and coiled bodies are carved into many of the temples. Curiously, during their time in the jungle, the Borini failed to find a single living snake.

Back out on the sand, a series of glossy stone pillars stand sentry along the entire length of Solar Beach. Together, these obelisks project a veil of invisibility over the entire realm, keeping Karadas hidden from the outside world. They are entirely unmovable. Each one stands over twelve feet, held in place by powerful sorcery cast long ago by the Guardians of Zell-Ku.
