Years ahead of its time. I spent many an hour playing Elite and still find it incredible that a BBC Acorn computer in the mid 1980’s was able to handle such a complex game.
You play as Commander Jameson and start at Lave Station with a lightly armed trading ship. You’re task is to accumulate credits by piracy, bounty hunting, and asteroid mining. The game is very addictive as you strive to upgrade your ship with enhancements and better weapons.
Other incarnations followed with improved graphics etc, but the original will always be remembered fondly by me.
